This helps you to know how well you're reaching your goals,
to understand how diet and exercise affect your blood sugar levels, to understand how other factors, such as illness or stress, affect blood sugar levels, to monitor the effect of diabetes medications on your blood sugar levels, and to identify blood sugar levels that are high or low.

For Type 1 diabetes, You may need to test before meals and snacks, before and after exercise, before bed, and sometimes during the night. You may also need to check your blood sugar level more often if you are ill, if you changed your daily routine or begin a new medication.
For Type 2 diabetes, you may need to test only twice daily, before breakfast and dinner. you may not need to test your blood sugar daily.
For many people who have diabetes, the following target blood sugar levels is recommended.
*Before Meals*
Between 80 and 130 mg/dL (4.4 and 7.2 mmol/L)
*After Meals*
Less than 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L) two hours after meals
*How To Test Blood Sugar.*
A Glucometer is required. usually blood is taken from the finger tip and dropped on a test strip. The glucometer reads the amount of sugar in the blood.
*Here's how the process works....*
๐Wash and dry your hands well.
๐Insert a test strip into your meter.
๐Prick the side of your fingertip with the needle (lancet) provided with your test kit.
๐Gently squeeze or massage your finger until a drop of blood forms.
๐Touch and hold the edge of the test strip to the drop of blood.
The meter will display your blood glucose level on a screen after a few seconds.
