Can a swollen ankle be a sign of a heart attack?
One can’t accurately predict a heart attack looking at ankles, however, you can determine much about the risks that someone is experiencing for heart attacks.
If the heart is having difficulty keeping up with the volume, then the blood backs up a bit. This is called heart failure. It results in the ankles being swollen and indicates the heart is struggling under its load.
If the lower legs are shiny, it may indicate that the arteries of the body are narrowing due to atherosclerosis. It indicates that the heart will have to work harder to supply the body with oxygen.
Diabetes also often shows up first at the feet. Diabetes and increased heart risk are also related.
